In war-torn times, a poor woodcutter and his wife live in a large forest. One day a woman finds and rescues a little girl, which brings irreversible changes in the life of the couple and the lives of those whose paths the child will meet. This is Michelle Hazanavicius' The first animated film.. At the moment, this is the best presentation of 2024 that I have seen this year, and now it is the middle of December 2024. It tells a story that takes place in Poland during the Second World War, almost like in a popular fairy tale. Most of the action takes place in the forest, typical of the aforementioned popular fairy tales, when a couple of loggers appear and adopt a Jewish girl who was thrown from a deportation train passing through their forest. His father threw him off to save him from certain death in Auschwitz. I will not go into the details of the plot so that you can see them, I just want to add that the film leads to a deeply philosophical finale. From a technical point of view, everything is done perfectly. The visual component of the film is excellent. The drawing style is correct, not too rich in details and not too rough, mainly poorly lit walls with dominant shades of gray are shown, emphasizing the horrors of the most shameful war and mass destruction in the history of mankind. And then the magnificent soundtrack: musical accompaniment, sound effects, narration and dubbing (I saw the original version in French) are perfectly suited to present a gem of a film. In conclusion, I want to say that this is one of the best films devoted to the topic of racism and especially the Holocaust through the artistic process and the story it wants to tell.
