Story

Divine G, imprisoned in Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose by performing in a theater group with other inmates in this story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art. The film begins with the actors trying out for various parts in the play.

The group has been criticized for not yet doing comedy

Their previous play was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a comedy-drama. At Night with Seth Meyers Features: Colman Domingo/Jose Medeles (2024).

A great all-around film

Blade was written by Bryce Dessner. It strikes the right tone and pace between harsh reality and human potential for good.

There’s very little that could be improved in this film

The script, cinematography, and acting all support the story very well. The only reason I didn’t rate it a 10 is because I don’t have direct experience with prisons and can’t vouch for its accuracy in terms of life there.

Everything in the film is well crafted

It’s also an important film that shows the consequences of regular parole boards and the injustices that occur in sentencing. If you have an interest in prisons, the justice system, rehabilitation, or theater, watch this.
